Active Fiber Systems GmbH (AFS) from Jena develops and manufactures high-performance femtosecond lasers based on cutting-edge fiber technology.
Since its founding in 2009 as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering and the Institute of Applied Physics of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, AFS has stood for technological excellence and innovation.
As part of the TRUMPF Group since 2022, AFS combines global reach with the agility of a high-tech company. The ultrashort light pulses of AFS lasers enable precise material processing without thermal damage – for example, in semiconductor manufacturing or micromachining. In research, they are used in areas such as biomedical imaging, for instance, to visualize living cells in real time.
With around 110 employees, close collaboration with research institutions, and multiple world records in physical parameters, AFS is considered a technological pioneer. The company is also committed to social, environmental, and regional responsibility – through support projects, tree-planting campaigns, and the integration of international professionals.
